As the sales for air purifiers increase the manufacturers are also stressing on innovative new designs to woo the customers. While the chief function of an air purifier is to clean the air, yet having sleek, smart looks wouldn't harm. An air purifier occupies a significant portion of the floor space of the room in which it is placed. So no one would want it to jut out, totally incongruent with the decor of the rest of the room.
Style is something very personal and hence subjective. The style of an air purifier becomes that much more important if it is placed in room where you may entertain visitors or where the family spends most of its time. However, if you are buying one for the basement, you can concentrate just on the effectiveness of it. Some of them are too noisy to be placed in a living room. While you might enjoy white noise, your guests might not. In any case you will be more used to the noise than your guests since you are staying there.
Finally, it must be remembered that the design of the purifier inside is more important than its looks. At the end of the day it should perform its primary task and that is to purify the air.
